Finite element mesh refinement in view of physical uncertainties

چکیده
This work examines the effect of quantitative uncertainties modeling on the need for refined Finite Element (FE) meshes, as well as the influence of mesh density on the results obtained using FE models including uncertainties. According to the numerical investigation performed, the modeling of uncertainties has an effect on the accuracy of the FE solution sought and relaxes the need for increasing FE mesh density, which, in fact, may produce a putative accuracy only.

Cover interpolation functions and h-enrichment in finite element method
This paper presents a method to improve the generation of meshes and the accuracy of numerical solutions of elasticity problems, in which two techniques of h-refinement and enrichment are used by interpolation cover functions. Initially, regions which possess desired accuracy are detected. Mesh improvment is done through h-refinement for the elements existing in those regions. Total error of th...
متن کاملFast Finite Element Method Using Multi-Step Mesh Process
This paper introduces a new method for accelerating current sluggish FEM and improving memory demand in FEM problems with high node resolution or bulky structures. Like most of the numerical methods, FEM results to a matrix equation which normally has huge dimension. Breaking the main matrix equation into several smaller size matrices, the solving procedure can be accelerated. For implementing ...
متن کاملSCALABLE, FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF ELECTROMAGNETIC SCAllERING AND RADIATION Error Estimation And h-Adaptivity
In this paper a method for simulating from complex objects is reviewed; namely, an electromagnetic fields scattered unstructured finite element code that does not use traditional mesh partitioning algorithms. The complete software package is implemented on the Cray T3D massively parallel processor using both Cray Adaptive FURTRAN (CRAFT) compiler constructs to simplify portions of the code that...
متن کاملAdaptive Surface Modeling Using a Quadtree of Quadratic Finite Elements
This article presents special quadrilateral quadratic refinement elements, which provide geometry and field continuity across Tjunctions where two elements are connected to one side of a larger quadrilateral. The main idea in element refinement is to place one or more nodes outside the element area and to modify element shape functions in order to maintain continuity at refinement edges. Specia...
متن کاملFlexible Representation of Computational Meshes
A new representation of computational meshes is proposed in terms of a covering relation defined by discrete topological objects we call sieves. Fields over a mesh are handled locally by using the notion of refinement, dual to covering, and are later reassembled. In this approach fields are modeled by sections of a fiber bundle over a sieve. This approach cleanly separates the topology of the m...
